Agartala, June 09, 2025: A four-member expert team from AIIMS New Delhi concluded a three-day visit to Tripura with the promise of long-term collaboration to strengthen the state’s healthcare infrastructure and training. The delegation, led by AIIMS Director Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas, met with Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha and top health officials, emphasizing AIIMS’s commitment to bolstering health services in the state.
Addressing a press conference at the Conference Hall of GBP Hospital in Agartala city on Monday, Dr. Srinivas stated, “Tripura has the core infrastructure needed. What the government seeks is strategic cooperation for enhancement—and AIIMS is ready to provide that.” He confirmed that the team conducted a comprehensive review of medical institutions, including Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC), GB Pant Hospital, TMC, and IGM Hospitals.
The delegation’s visit began on June 7 focused on identifying gaps and opportunities in medical infrastructure, super-specialty care, and healthcare education. Dr. Srinivas added, “We’ve interacted with doctors, staff, and patients across departments. A detailed report will be submitted to the Chief Minister and AIIMS headquarters. Based on this, a roadmap will be drawn up.”
Highlighting training as a key component of the cooperation, he said, “We will initiate targeted training for doctors, nurses, and lab technicians to improve healthcare delivery efficiency in Tripura.”
Delegation member Dr. Ramesh Agarwal praised the state’s healthcare performance, noting, “Tripura’s infant mortality rate is lower than the national average. That reflects commendable efforts by the state government.” He also emphasized that the Chief Minister’s medical background is a distinct advantage in health planning.
Other members of the AIIMS team included Dr. Laxmitej Undavalli and Dr. Aruna Kumari. Also present were Dr. Tapan Majumder (Director of Health), Dr. Shankar Chakraborty (Medical Superintendent, GBP), and Dr. Anup Saha (Principal, AGMC).
The delegation assured that AIIMS will provide sustained guidance to improve health infrastructure, education, and specialized care services in Tripura.
