In a deeply emotional moment that marked the end of an era, Air India officially ceased its operations from Imphal International Airport on Sunday, taking its final flight and closing a historic chapter of aviation service in Manipur.
The farewell, captured in poignant images shared by the airport authorities, showed Air India employees visibly moved as the aircraft taxied for departure. One photograph on the Facebook page of Imphal Airport, in particular, showed an emotional staff member waving goodbye with tears rolling down his cheeks—symbolizing the deep bond between the airline and the people of Manipur.
Referred to as the “Big Brother,” Air India’s final flight was seen glancing symbolically toward the new terminal building and Air Traffic Services (ATS) complex—an apparent gesture of silent blessing for the airport’s future.
Standing nearby was AIX (Air India Express), described by the airport as the “younger brother,” witnessing the departure with quiet resolve and a promise to continue serving the region with the same dedication.
With a final wave and a powerful ascent into the skies, Air India left behind not just an empty parking bay, but a legacy of resilience, reliability, and heartfelt connections that will long be remembered by the people of Manipur.
