The All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO) today observed the 28th Integrity Day at GM Hall, Imphal, reaffirming the collective resolve of the people of Manipur to safeguard the state’s territorial and emotional integrity.

The event commemorated the mass uprising of June 18, 2001, when 18 individuals laid down their lives protesting the extension of the ceasefire agreement between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM “without territorial limits.” Their sacrifice remains a powerful symbol of resistance and unity in Manipur’s political history.

A large gathering — including student leaders, academicians, civil society representatives, local club members, and concerned citizens — attended the solemn ceremony. The observance began with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp and a moment of silence, followed by floral tributes offered at portraits of the 18 martyrs.

In his keynote address, AMUCO President Nando Luwang stressed that Integrity Day is not merely a remembrance of past events, but a reminder of the enduring responsibility to protect Manipur’s unity and identity.

“The people of Manipur stood united in 2001, and we continue to stand united in 2025,” he said. “Our history testifies that we will not allow any force to divide us. Integrity Day reminds us to remain vigilant and committed.”

Speakers from various sectors — including student unions, women’s groups, and senior citizens — highlighted the need for a strong civil society to serve as the moral compass of the state. They urged the youth to learn from history and uphold the hard-earned unity of Manipur.

Cultural performances, including traditional songs, dramatic reenactments of the 2001 uprising, and poetry readings, added emotional depth to the occasion. A photo exhibition at the venue featured archival images of the 2001 events and previous Integrity Day commemorations, offering a powerful visual narrative for younger generations.

AMUCO concluded the observance with a renewed appeal to all communities — Meitei, Nagas, Kukis, Pangals, and others — to foster peace, mutual respect, and solidarity.

“Manipur’s true strength lies in its unity,” the organization declared, “and any threat to its integrity, whether political or ideological, will be met with a firm, peaceful, and united response.”
