The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) today organised a special Ningol Chakkouba celebration at the Manipur Press Club, honouring women journalists from across the state. The event celebrated the contributions of women in the media fraternity and reflected the essence of cultural unity and mutual respect.

The celebration began with participants arriving in traditional Manipuri attire, showcasing the state’s rich cultural heritage. AMWJU office bearers extended a warm welcome to all attendees, followed by a festive lunch that embodied the joyous spirit of Ningol Chakkouba.

In his address, Asem Bhakta, President of AMWJU, highlighted the deeper significance of the festival as a symbol of unity, respect, and appreciation. He noted that the event was not only a cultural celebration but also a gesture of gratitude towards women journalists who continue to uphold the values of truth, dedication, and integrity in their profession.

As part of the celebration, each participant received a token of appreciation under the theme “Paomee Ningol”, symbolising affection and goodwill.

Adding excitement to the occasion, a lucky draw sponsored by the Directorate of Handlooms and Textiles, Government of Manipur, was conducted exclusively for attendees. The draw, hosted by child artist Winnie Thangjam, featured attractive prizes including a gold earring sponsored by Ima Panthobi Jewellery, Wahengbam Leikai; a gold ring sponsored by Leiren Jewellers, Sega Road Thoudahbabok Leikai; and rice cookers sponsored by MAZO HUB, Keishampat Konjeng Hajari Leikai.

The event concluded on a cheerful note, fostering camaraderie and celebrating the vital role of women journalists in shaping Manipur’s media landscape.
