Agartala, May 10, 2025: In a major breakthrough in the fight against drugs, the Tripura’s Amtali police station staff in coordination with TSR personnel seized narcotics worth approximately ₹1 crore during a special operation conducted in the Motinagar area of Phultali under West Tripura district on Friday evening.

Acting on a tip-off from a confidential source, a team led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Himadri Sarkar and second officer Mrinal Kanti Pal raided the residence of alleged drug dealer Shukku Mia. The police recovered 50 vials of brown sugar, 130 grams of Yaba tablets and an additional 33 grams of brown sugar stored in a container. Shukku Mia was arrested on the spot and taken to Amtali Police Station for further interrogation.

“The total estimated market value of the seized narcotics is nearly ₹1 crore. We have registered a case under the NDPS Act against the accused, and he is currently under intensive interrogation. He will be produced before the court on Saturday,” said OC Himadri Sarkar while addressing a press conference late Friday evening.

In a broader coordinated effort, police teams from Amtali, Srinagar and AD Nagar stations also detained several drug users from the area. The addicts were later counseled by the police and handed over to their families with stern warnings to abstain from future drug abuse.

“This is part of our ongoing mission to protect the youth of Motinagar and its surrounding areas from the grip of narcotics. Many of these illegal activities are being run from homes or small shops by young individuals. We will continue such operations in the coming days to eliminate this menace,” added OC Sarkar.
