Agartala, May 19: The Tripura government has appointed senior IPS officer Anurag Dhankar as the new Director General of Police (DGP). He succeeds Amitabh Ranjan, who is retiring this month after serving since July 2022.
The official notification from the General Administration (Personnel and Training) Department stated that the Governor, in consultation with the Union Public Service Commission, approved Dhankar’s appointment.
A 1994 batch Tripura cadre officer, Dhankar currently serves as DGP (Intelligence) and has held key positions including SDPO Longtharai Valley, SP of West and South Tripura districts, SP (Special Branch), and AIG (Headquarters). His experience also includes service with the UN Mission in Kosovo and deputations with the CBI and CISF.
Dhankar holds advanced degrees in Food Technology, Police Management, and Cyber Crimes, along with certification as a fraud examiner.
He has received the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
As DGP, Dhankar is expected to focus on community policing, technology-driven investigations, and improving law and order across Tripura.
