Representatives of Arunachal Pradesh University (APU), Pasighat, met Union Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju here in New Delhi on Monday, seeking his intervention on fellowship support for the University’s PhD research scholars and basic campus infrastructure development.
Rijiju assured the APU delegation of his support on the infrastructure matters and advised the University to submit its proposals through the proper channel via the State Government and the relevant central portal, so that scheme benefits under applicable Central Government programmes could be sanctioned in favour of the University.
On the fellowship matter — concerning the absence of any financial support for APU’s PhD research scholars, all of whom belong to Scheduled Tribe communities of the state, Rijiju acknowledged the concern and assured the delegation that he would look into the possibilities and take up the matter in discussion with the Union Minister of Education.
He also warmly congratulated APU on its establishment and early progress, and offered his best wishes for the University’s future.
He advised the institution to focus on imparting quality teaching, learning, and research programmes, and to take the young minds of Arunachal Pradesh forward with the best of education.
The University was represented by Likha Rinchin, Assistant Registrar (Academics), and Assistant Professor Dr. Prem Taba.
AR Rinchin thanked the Minister on behalf of the University and briefed him on APU’s progress since the commencement of its first academic session in August 2023 — covering its academic programmes, research activities, and the growth of the campus at Pasighat.
