Itanagar, Oct 29: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday lauded the successful completion of the civil-military trek to Athupopu, a revered Idu Mishmi sacred site in Dibang Valley district. He described the initiative as a strong symbol of unity, devotion, and partnership between the Indian Army and local communities.

Taking to social media, Khandu said the trek celebrated harmony and faith while underscoring the deep spiritual importance of Athupopu for the Idu Mishmi people. The site is believed to be the resting place of souls on their journey to the afterlife, considered a meeting point of nature and spirit.

The chief minister expressed gratitude to the Indian Army’s Spear Corps for joining the local participants and helping them reconnect with their ancestral traditions. He said such efforts strengthen the bond between the armed forces and the people they serve.

Jointly organised with community leaders, the trek saw army personnel and villagers retrace ancient trails through the pristine Dibang Valley, fostering camaraderie, physical endurance, and respect for indigenous knowledge.

Khandu said initiatives like the Athupopu trek combine service, spirituality, and cultural pride, highlighting the state government’s continued commitment to preserving Arunachal Pradesh’s rich indigenous legacy.
