Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has emerged as the second richest chief minister in India, with assets valued at over Rs 332 crore, according to a new report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

Despite his considerable wealth, Khandu carries the highest liabilities among his peers, totaling Rs 180 crore. The report also names Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu as the wealthiest, with assets exceeding Rs 931 crore.

At the other end of the spectrum, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is reported as the poorest among India’s chief ministers, with assets amounting to just Rs 15 lakh.

The ADR report further highlights that the average asset value of a chief minister in India stands at Rs 52.59 crore. It also reveals that 42% of chief ministers face criminal charges, with 32% of them involved in serious offenses such as attempted murder, kidnapping, bribery, and criminal intimidation.

Among the 31 chief ministers across the country, only two are women: Mamata Banerjee and Atishi from Delhi. The report sheds light on significant financial and legal disparities within India’s political leadership.
