Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has unveiled a historic T-55 Russian-made tank at the World War II Cemetery in Jairampur, Changlang district. The tank, which was inducted into the Indian Army in 1965 and later decommissioned, serves as a symbol of India’s armoured warfare history.
Khandu shared the milestone on social media, referring to the tank as a “war trophy” and highlighting its importance in recognizing the contributions of Indian soldiers. He also noted that the installation aims to promote tourism while educating the public about the country’s military heritage.
The T-55 tank unveiling is part of a larger initiative led by Lt Col TC Tayum to showcase military history across Arunachal Pradesh. With four tanks already on display and plans for eight more, Khandu emphasized that the initiative would inspire patriotism and foster a deeper understanding of India’s military legacy, particularly among the youth.
