Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bosiram Siram on Wednesday urged citizens, particularly the youth, to draw inspiration from former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s legacy and reaffirm their commitment to secularism, social justice, and national unity.
Speaking at a programme held at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan in Itanagar to mark her 108th birth anniversary, Siram described Gandhi as a symbol of courage, vision, and nation-building. He said her leadership during some of the country’s most challenging periods continues to influence India’s democratic framework.
Siram highlighted Gandhi’s contributions in promoting self-reliance, safeguarding national integrity, and advocating for the rights of marginalized communities. He referred to key policies such as the Green Revolution, bank nationalisation, empowerment of the poor, and measures aimed at strengthening democratic institutions.
He said Gandhi’s firm response to external and domestic challenges reflected her commitment to protecting national interests.
Siram added that her teachings remain relevant at a time when divisive narratives pose challenges to social harmony. He appealed to the public to uphold her ideals and work for peace, progress, and balanced development in the state.
The APCC on the occasion reiterated its commitment to preserving Indira Gandhi’s vision and promoting democratic values and people-centric governance.
