Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein inaugurated two major initiatives in Mechukha on January 3, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the region’s cultural and infrastructural development. The projects included the Dorjee Sempa Khorchen, India’s tallest prayer wheel, and the NCDS Multipurpose Building.

The Dorjee Sempa Khorchen, dedicated to the late former Minister Pasang Wangchuk Sona and his wife Rinjin Drema Sona, is a monumental prayer wheel inscribed with 1.6 billion prayers and 16 Dungyur scrolls. It was consecrated by His Eminence Rev. Dzogchen Ganor Rinpoche, the abbot of Lhagon Jhangchu Choeling Monastery in Tezu. This project serves as a symbol of Mechukha’s cultural heritage and spiritual significance.

In his speech, Deputy CM Mein praised Minister Passang Dorjee Sona and his family for their dedicated efforts in Mechukha’s progress and the preservation of its unique cultural traditions. He also highlighted the state government’s ongoing commitment to supporting indigenous culture, with initiatives such as the Department of Indigenous Culture.

Additionally, Deputy CM Mein laid the foundation for several key development projects designed to boost the region’s infrastructure and tourism potential. These include the Mechukha Adventure Park, a Convention Hall, Cultural Haat, a motorable suspension bridge over the Yargyapchu River, and a road to Thargelling Village. A small hydropower project was also announced to cater to the area’s growing energy demands.

The newly inaugurated NCDS Multipurpose Building, a three-story structure, will provide much-needed facilities for cultural and tourism events, featuring guest rooms for monks, a meditation hall, office space for the Neh-Nang Cultural Development Society, and a conference hall.

Following the inaugurations, Deputy CM Mein also visited other significant infrastructure projects in Mechukha, including the Civil Terminal Building at ALG Mechukha, the Indoor Stadium, and the Buddha Park, underlining the government’s continued focus on the region’s development.

The inauguration event was attended by Passang Dorjee Sona, Minister of Education, Tourism, RWD, Library, and Parliamentary Affairs, SP S.K. Thongdok, ADC Mechukha Smt. Tana Yaho, Lt. Colonel Anush Sharma of the Indian Army, and members of the Neh-Nang Cultural Development Society.
