Namsai, March 24: Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Chowna Mein, on Tuesday flagged off E-Rickshaws under the Innovative & Economic Development/Income Enhancement Project (Gram Bandhu) at the District Secretariat, Namsai. The project is being implemented under the Revamped Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA).

A total of 40 E-Rickshaws have been allocated under the pilot phase of the initiative, with 20 each for Namsai and East Siang districts.

Addressing the event, Mein said the Gram Bandhu initiative aims to strengthen rural livelihoods by creating sustainable income opportunities while promoting eco-friendly transport. The introduction of E-Rickshaws is expected to generate employment for drivers and Self-Help Group (SHG) members and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Highlighting environmental concerns, Mein noted that Arunachal Pradesh, known for its rivers and natural heritage, should continue developing in harmony with nature. He stated that rising reliance on petrol and diesel contributes to pollution and economic pressure, making electric mobility a practical solution.
The Deputy Chief Minister added that the E-Rickshaws are environment-friendly, cost-effective, and suitable for local transport. He noted that the initiative would also enhance last-mile connectivity and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for youth and rural entrepreneurs.
Emphasizing the role of women, Mein said empowering women through livelihood programs would further support inclusive growth at the grassroots level. He urged beneficiaries to take ownership of the initiative through proper utilization, maintenance, and community participation to ensure long-term sustainability. Successful implementation in Namsai and other pilot areas could lead to expansion across the state.
The programme was attended by Minister for Panchayati Raj & Rural Development Ojing Tasing, MLA Namsai Chau Zingnu Namchoom, ZPC Chau Sujana Namchoom, Deputy Commissioner Namsai C.R. Khampa, Director (PR) Tajing Jonnom, and other officials, PRI members, and SHG representatives.
