Itanagar, Feb 18: The under-construction 2,880 MW Dibang multipurpose hydel project in Arunachal Pradesh achieved a significant milestone on Tuesday with the successful daylighting of Diversion Tunnel-3 (DT-3).
NHPC Director (Projects) Sanjay Kumar Singh triggered the final blast to complete the tunnel breakthrough, officials confirmed. The achievement will facilitate smoother diversion of the Dibang River and accelerate overall construction work on the project in Lower Dibang Valley district.
The NHPC-developed project comprises 12 units of 240 MW each and is expected to generate over 11,000 million units of electricity annually once completed. In addition to power generation, the project will provide flood moderation for the Brahmaputra basin and strengthen regional water storage capacity.
