Arunachal: DMF Governing Council Approves Key Development Proposals For Tawang District

Itanagar, May 29: The Governing Council Meeting of the District Mineral Foundation (DMF), Tawang, was held today in the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Tawang. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Tawang, Namgyal Angmo, IAS, and attended by Zila Parishad Chairperson Leki Gombu, ADC Tawang Rinchin Leta, ADC Lungla Tashi Dhondup, I/C ADC Jang Honjon Perme, and other council members.

Welcoming the members, Assistant Mineral Development Officer, Tawang, Dorjee Lhamu, presented an overview of the District Mineral Foundation, highlighting its objectives, governance structure, sources of funding, and fund utilization. She also delivered a detailed

presentation on the new scheme proposals submitted by the district’s three subdivisions for the financial year 2026–27. The council deliberated extensively on the proposed schemes, examining their feasibility and potential impact on local communities.

Addressing the members, Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo emphasized the importance of the prudent and effective utilization of DMF resources, describing the fund as a valuable and limited resource available for the district’s development at district level. She stressed the need to maintain quality standards in project execution and appreciated the constructive proposals submitted by the three subdivisions. The DC further directed concerned departments and administrative officers to ensure the timely completion of any pending projects from the previous financial year.

During the open-house discussion, members proposed several initiatives aimed at strengthening essential public services. Suggestions included engaging teachers under the PMKKKY to address the shortage of teaching staff in the district, appointing ambulance drivers to enhance emergency healthcare services, and engaging dialysis technicians for the District Hospital. Zila Parishad Chairperson Leki Gombu also proposed the establishment of Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in remote villages such as Mago and Thingbu to improve waste management. Additionally, the Industries Department sought support for training programs on packaging and value addition of locally produced goods.

Following detailed discussions, the Governing Council approved the proposals for implementation.

After the meeting, council members felicitated Dr. Thupten Lhamu, District Medical Officer, Tawang, on the occasion of her retirement after an illustrious career in public service. On her final day of official duty, Dr. Lhamu expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner for prioritizing healthcare improvements in the district over the past year. Reflecting on her journey, she shared that she had dedicated 34 years, 9 months, and 16 days of service to the people and thanked colleagues and stakeholders for their unwavering support throughout her career.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of approved developmental initiatives for the welfare and progress of the people of Tawang district.
