Arunachal Pradesh Deputy CM Inaugurates Two-Day Orientation Programme For MLAs, Emphasizes Role Of Legislators In State Development

Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein while addressing the MLAs in inaugural session of the two-days Orientation Programme at APLA today stressed the importance of continuous learning for legislators. He stated that as policymakers, legislators must constantly enhance their understanding of governance to better serve the people and contribute to the state’s development.

He emphasised that elected representatives carry the aspirations of both their constituencies and the State. The Legislative Assembly, being the highest law making body in the State, plays a crucial role in translating these aspirations into actionable policies.
Highlighting the value of informed debate and constructive discussion, Mein said that such orientation programmes are essential for strengthening the legislative process and enhancing the capabilities of MLAs. Being the senior most Member of Legislative Assembly in the State, he exhorted the legislators to familiarise themselves with the Assembly’s rules, procedures, and responsibilities including the drafting of substantive questions and private member resolutions.

The Deputy Chief Minister also called for learning from the institution’s historical journey, starting with the contributions of its first Speaker, Nokmey Namati, to better appreciate the evolution of democratic governance in the State.

The programme is being organised by the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (APLA) in collaboration with the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE) and the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

He commended APLA Speaker, Tesam Pongte, Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, Director PRIDE and the senior officials from the Secretariats of Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha for organising the must desired orientation program which he said will help to enhance the efficiency of the State Legislators.

On the occasion, Ministers, MLAs, APLA Secretary, Tadar Meena, PRIDE Director, Prashant Kumar Mallick, and senior officials from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariats were present.
