Arunachal Forest Department Rescues Himalayan Black Bear Cub In Deomali

A one-month-old Himalayan black bear cub was rescued by the Deomali Forest Division after being found stranded in an agricultural field in Borduria village under the Deomali subdivision.

Local residents Ponpong Ruttum and Wanghon Lettey spotted the cub on March 26, 2026, and immediately informed the Forest Department. A response team led by Range Forest Officer Diwang Lowang from the Borduria Forest Range secured the cub under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer, Deomali Forest Division.

After receiving initial care, the cub was transferred on March 28 to veterinarian Panjit Basumatary at the Centre for Bear Rehabilitation and Conservation (CBRC) in Pakke Tiger Reserve. The handover took place in Namsai with officials from the Namsai Forest Division present.

RFO Lowang acknowledged the villagers’ prompt cooperation and urged the public to support wildlife conservation by avoiding forest destruction, poaching, and hunting. Environment and Forest Minister Wangki Lowang also commended the residents for their vigilance, highlighting the importance of community participation in preserving Arunachal Pradesh’s biodiversity.

The Forest Department reaffirmed its commitment to wildlife protection and encouraged citizens to report similar incidents to local authorities promptly.

Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein noted that the rescue underscores the delicate balance between human habitats and wildlife and praised the Forest Department for ensuring the cub’s safety. He added that such efforts reflect the state’s ongoing dedication to safeguarding its rich wildlife.
