Itanagar, Jan 24: Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik on Friday instructed newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) Shiv Darshan Singh Jamwal to take strong measures against illegal immigration, citing its serious threat to social harmony and internal security.

The governor also highlighted the need to address the rising drug problem, particularly to protect the state’s youth from substance abuse. Speaking during Jamwal’s courtesy call at Raj Bhavan, Parnaik stressed the importance of visible policing, robust intelligence gathering, and close community coordination, especially in insurgency-prone districts such as Tirap, Changlang, and Longding, to enhance public confidence.

He further urged judicious deployment of manpower and resources for maintaining law and order across the state, and recommended adopting advanced technologies, including digital surveillance, data-driven policing, and smart crime analysis, to move Arunachal toward a safer future.

DGP Jamwal, who assumed office on Thursday, briefed the governor on his immediate priorities and outlined a strategic roadmap to strengthen peace, public safety, and overall security in the state.
