Itanagar, March 21: A 29-year-old man from Arunachal Pradesh has been arrested in Naharlagun for allegedly issuing death threats to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma via WhatsApp.

Krishna Dornal, a resident of Dolahtphulbari village, was taken into custody on Thursday following a tip-off from Assam police.

Itanagar Capital Region Superintendent of Police Nyelam Nega said Dornal sent the threatening message after receiving no response to an earlier email he had sent to the Chief Minister’s official address demanding money.

During interrogation, Dornal admitted to embezzling funds from his workplace at a wine shop. When confronted by the owner regarding financial accounts, he escalated the matter by emailing the Chief Minister and later sending the WhatsApp threat using a number sourced online.

The accused has been handed over to Assam police for further investigation. SP Nega urged the public to use social media responsibly and warned that legal action will be taken against threats or misuse.
