Itanagar, Oct 7: To mark the 63rd Walong Day and pay tribute to the heroes of the 1962 Sino-India War, 20 bikers set off on an eight-day, 1,000 km motorcycle expedition from Tawang to Walong in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district on Tuesday.
The expedition was flagged off at the Tawang parade ground by Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering and Tawang Brigade deputy commander Colonel M. Upadhyay. Col Upadhyay praised the participants, emphasising the army’s dedication to national security and describing the journey as a symbol of adventure, patriotism, and unity.
MLA Tsering paid homage to soldiers who lost their lives in battles at Walong, Bumla, Kenzamani, and other locations during the 1962 war, calling the expedition “a living tribute to the nation’s bravehearts.”
A documentary on the Battle of Walong (1962) was screened before the flag-off, highlighting the courage of Indian soldiers and support from local communities. Cultural performances by students of the Government Higher Secondary School, Tawang, and youth groups from Ketchengha were also part of the event.
The bikers paid floral tributes at the Tawang War Memorial before beginning their journey, which will take them through Tenga, Itanagar, Likabali, Roing, and Haflong in Assam, engaging with local communities and promoting the legacy of bravery and resilience from the 1962 war.
