Itanagar, Aug 18: Mountaineer Kabak Yano from Arunachal Pradesh has successfully summited Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Russia and Europe, on 16th August 2025. Arunachal Pradesh Governor, Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.), congratulated Yano on her achievement, praising her determination and confidence. The Governor had earlier flagged off Yano for her Seven Summits Challenge.

Mount Elbrus, located in the Caucasus Mountains near the Georgia-Russia border, is a dormant stratovolcano standing 18,510 feet above sea level. It is the highest peak in Europe, the highest volcano in Eurasia, and one of the ten most prominent peaks globally. Climbing Mount Elbrus is a key milestone in the Seven Summits Challenge, which involves ascending the tallest mountains on each continent.

Yano, who previously summited Mount Everest on 21st May 2024, became the fifth woman from Arunachal Pradesh and the first from the Nyishi community to achieve this feat. Her Everest expedition began on 27th March 2024 from Kathmandu, reaching the base camp on 17th April, before successfully reaching the summit.

Born on 5th September 1999, Yano faced personal challenges, including the loss of her father in 2022. She supported her family through various jobs, including working as a bouncer, in a beauty parlour, and in the clothing business. She drew inspiration from renowned Arunachal mountaineer Abraham Tagit Sorang.

Currently pursuing a Post Graduate Diploma in Fitness Management at Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) in Pasighat, Yano will receive further support from the university for advanced training, educational assistance, and potential teaching opportunities. The university plans to use her achievements to inspire students to pursue their goals.
