Kabak Yano, a mountaineer from Arunachal Pradesh, has successfully reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest peak in Africa and one of the world’s Seven Summits. The Arunachal Pradesh Governor, KT Parnaik, congratulated Yano for her achievement, highlighting that it reflects the determination and spirit of the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Governor, who had flagged off her expedition on July 28, expressed pride in her success and said it will serve as an inspiration for the youth of the state. Yano reached the summit at 10:27 AM (African Time) on August 4. Mount Kilimanjaro stands at 5,895 meters and is the tallest free-standing mountain globally.
This accomplishment adds to Yano’s growing record in mountaineering. She had earlier scaled Mount Everest on May 21, 2024, becoming the fifth woman from Arunachal Pradesh and the first woman from the Nyishi community to do so.
Born on September 5, 1999, Yano’s journey has been marked by challenges, including the loss of her father, a casual labourer in the Public Works Department, in 2022. Following this, she took on family responsibilities and worked various jobs to support her education and household.
Yano credits renowned Arunachal mountaineer Abraham Tagit Sorang as her inspiration. During her Everest expedition, she overcame difficult terrains such as the Khumbu Icefall and endured the harsh conditions of high altitudes.
Currently, Yano is pursuing a Post Graduate Diploma in Fitness Management at Rashtriya Raksha University, Pasighat. The university plans to support her future endeavors through training, education, and potential teaching roles, encouraging other students to pursue their ambitions.
