Itanagar, March 3: A government official in Arunachal Pradesh was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a bus stop along the Chimpu-Hollongi road on Monday morning, police said.
The deceased, identified as Chungma Bagang, a resident of Doripu Bagang in East Kameng district, served as an upper division clerk (UDC) in the Sagalee Public Works Department (PWD) division. Passers-by discovered his body around 8 a.m., with his neck tied to the bus shelter structure and both hands and legs bound, raising suspicions of foul play. The incident was reported to Chimpu police station.
Following a complaint by his son, Atung Bagang, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, concerning murder. According to the FIR, Chungma had called his son on March 1 at 7:04 p.m., asking him to retrieve his car parked near RK Mission in Chimpu. He also mentioned plans to travel to Assam with a friend, without providing further details about the companion or itinerary.
Police have formed four investigation teams to probe the case. They are reviewing CCTV footage from the area, recording statements from family members and acquaintances, and reconstructing the sequence of events. The body has been sent to the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Naharlagun for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
