Patel Engineering has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Arunachal Pradesh government to restore and develop the 144 MW Gongri Hydropower Project, aimed at strengthening clean energy capacity in the Northeast.
Located near Dirang town on the Gongri river, the project was earlier terminated but has now been revived under the state’s ‘Arunachal Pradesh Restoration of Terminated Large Hydropower Policy under Special Circumstances, 2025.’ It is the first initiative to receive approval under this policy by the state cabinet.
Estimated at Rs 1,700 crore, the project is expected to be completed in about four years. Patel Engineering will execute the project on a BOOT (Build-Own-Operate-Transfer) basis for 40 years, covering all stages from Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation and engineering to dam and powerhouse construction, equipment installation, grid connectivity, and post-commissioning operations.
The initiative is expected to generate clean energy while creating jobs, improving local infrastructure, and promoting sustainable growth. Managing Director Kavita Shirvaikar said, “This collaboration underscores our commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development, harnessing the region’s hydro potential while delivering socio-economic benefits to communities.”
Patel Engineering brings extensive experience in hydropower, tunneling, and irrigation projects.
