Itanagar, May 29: East Siang and Siang have secured semifinal spots in the boys’ football category of the Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy (HDMT) after defeating West Siang and Kurum Kumey, respectively. The match between East Siang and West Siang was a closely contested one, with West Siang taking an early lead through a penalty scored by Mirok Loyi in the 28th minute. However, East Siang equalized when Mohan Boni scored with a long shot in the 34th minute.
The match seesawed back and forth, with Kijo Ete scoring for West Siang in the 46th minute. However, Panam Tasung equalized again for East Siang in the 59th minute. In the final 20 minutes, East Siang dominated possession and scored a decisive goal through Geni Tayeng in the 70+3 minute, winning the match 3-2.
In the second quarterfinal match of the day, Siang edged out Kurum Kumey 3-1. Abhas Tasing, Hanu Tari, and Dubom Tamin scored for Siang in the 41st, 55th, and 61st minutes, respectively. Phasang Tade’s header in the 50th minute gave Kurum Kumey some hope, but Siang held on for the win.
In the girls’ volleyball event, Upper Subansiri and West Kameng have advanced to the next round after defeating Bichom and Tirap, respectively.
