Arunachal Pradesh, often called the lungs of the Himalayas, has been identified as India’s largest carbon sink. The state boasts an impressive 79% forest cover and contributes 14.38% to India’s total carbon sequestration. With a staggering 1,021 million tonnes of carbon stock, Arunachal Pradesh holds the highest carbon reserves in the country.

This significant role positions the state as a key contributor to India’s commitment to achieving Net-Zero emissions by 2070.
