Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday said Arunachal Pradesh is poised to become India’s leading hydropower state, citing major progress in energy projects and their growing impact on the local economy.

In a statement shared on his official X handle, Khandu highlighted that the state possesses an estimated 56,000 megawatts of hydroelectric potential. He noted that multiple large-scale projects that were once only on paper are now taking shape.

Among the key developments, the 600 MW Kameng project has been completed, the 2,000 MW Subansiri project is nearing commissioning, and the 2,880 MW Dibang project is expected to become the largest hydroelectric project in the country. Additionally, 13 new hydropower projects with a combined capacity of 15,000 MW are set to be launched in the next three years.

“This progress is not only about generating power—it’s about empowering people and building a stronger future,” said Khandu.

He added that the state stands to gain ₹4,171 crore worth of free power, ₹735 crore in direct investments for local communities, and annual dividends of ₹1,884 crore, which will significantly boost the state’s economy.
