Arunachal Pradesh: First Meeting Of Newly Elected PRI Members Held In Tawang

Itanagar, Jan 10 | The first official meeting of the newly elected Zila Parishad Members (ZPMs) and Gram Panchayats of Tawang district was held with great enthusiasm and optimism today at the Kalawangpo Convention Hall, marking the beginning of a new chapter in grassroots governance.

The meeting was graced by MLA Lungla & Advisor to the Minister of Planning and WCD, Tsering Lhamu, as the Chief Guest.

During the meeting, the election and selection of 87 Gram Chairpersons and one Zila Parishad Chairperson were conducted. In a unanimous decision, the newly elected ZPMs re-elected ZPM from Jang Thingbu Block, Leki Gombu, as the Zila Parishad Chairperson, Tawang, for a second consecutive term.

The In-charge Deputy Commissioner, Tawang, Rinchin Leta, administered the oath of office to the newly elected ZPMs and the Zila Parishad Chairperson, while the newly elected and selected Gram Chairpersons were administered oath by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jang, Hakraso Kri. The 308 Gram Panchayat Members took their oath from their respective Member Secretaries.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Tsering Lhamu conveyed New Year greetings and heartfelt congratulations to all newly elected PRI members. She expressed gratitude to the district administration, police, and all stakeholders for the peaceful and successful conduct of the recently concluded Panchayat Elections.

She urged the PRI representatives to work with dedication for the overall development of their respective jurisdictions, ensure quality execution and timely completion of developmental projects, and actively monitor welfare schemes. Commending the State Government’s initiatives, she highlighted the importance of strengthening Panchayati Raj Institutions through decentralisation of responsibilities and resources.

Emphasising transparency and people’s participation, she called for the regular conduct of Gram Sabhas and appealed to the members to take proactive measures for plastic waste management and maintaining a clean environment.

In his address, Zila Parishad Chairperson Leki Gombu expressed sincere gratitude to the voters of his constituency for the overwhelming mandate and thanked his fellow ZPMs for entrusting him with leadership for a second term. He pledged to work with renewed commitment to reach the last person in the queue in line with the vision of Mission Viksit Bharat 2047, remarking, “There is no use in holding a chair if one cannot perform.”

The programme was attended by Superintendent of Police, Tawang, Dr. D. W. Thongon, Additional Deputy Commissioners Jang Hakraso Kri and Lungla Tashi Dhondup, Member Secretaries, and representatives of various political parties.

The event concluded on a positive note, reflecting collective resolve towards inclusive development, accountable governance, and sustainable progress in Tawang district.
