Itanagar, Dec 27: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.), on December 27, 2024, handed over a cheque of Rs 30 lakh to Deepak Nabam for the Nabam Living Home in Senki Park, Itanagar. The donation is part of the Mukhya Mantri Manasik Swasthya Yojana, a state government initiative to support mental health services.
In his address, the Governor commended the Deepak Nabam Living Home for its exemplary work in supporting individuals with mental health challenges. He highlighted the organization’s commitment to providing care and rehabilitation for marginalized individuals, giving them an opportunity to regain dignity and purpose in life.
The Governor stressed that mental health care should be considered a basic right, not a privilege, and emphasized the need to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health. He called for collective efforts to ensure that individuals with mental health challenges are supported in their recovery and able to lead fulfilling lives.
Pawan Kumar Sain, Commissioner of Health, shared that Deepak Nabam Living Home is the first halfway home in the state to be registered under the State Mental Health Authority. He noted that regular inspections are conducted to ensure the well-being of the residents, who are all registered at the State Mental Hospital, Midpu.
The Commissioner also announced that a mental health camp would be held at the Living Home on December 30, 2024, where over 300 patients would receive free checkups. Free neuro-psychiatric medications will be distributed to patients during the camp.
