The Arunachal Pradesh Trade Union Federation (APTUF) and All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union (AAPWU) have warned of a 24 hour shutdown of water and electricity supply in the Capital Region if pending wages of casual and contingency workers are not released by June 20.
APTUF Secretary General Kenkar Yomcha said many workers under various government departments have not received salaries for two to three months, while some have been waiting for eight to nine months. Despite the delays, workers have continued to perform their duties without disruption, he added.
The unions submitted memorandums to the government on March 12 and May 11 demanding immediate release of wages. With no concrete action taken so far, Yomcha said workers will stop work and enforce a 24 hour shutdown of electricity and water services in the state capital as a protest if the issue remains unresolved by the June 20 deadline.
APTUF and AAPWU urged the state government and concerned departments to clear all pending dues without further delay and ensure timely wage payments to protect the livelihoods of thousands of workers across Arunachal Pradesh.
