Dong village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district where India witnesses its first sunrise is set to host the state’s first-ever Sunrise Festival from December 29, 2025, to January 2, 2026. Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced the five-day celebration, which will highlight Dong’s unique distinction as the easternmost point of India, where the first rays of the Sun falls in Indian soil.

The festival will offer visitors a unique blend of nature, culture, and adventure, featuring sunrise treks to welcome the first dawn of 2026, traditional performances by local communities, authentic regional cuisine, handicraft stalls, and eco-tourism activities such as camping and guided trails.

Situated in the tri-junction of India, China, and Myanmar, Dong is home to the Meyor tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. With its strategic location and rich heritage, this initiative aims to boost tourism, create opportunities for adventurers and nature enthusiasts, and establish Dong as a landmark of India’s geographical and cultural significance.

Travelers can reach Dong via Dibrugarh airport in Assam, located 360 kilometers away, or Tinsukia railway station, 310 kilometers distant, followed by a road journey to Walong and a trek to Dong. With its mix of adventure and cultural immersion, the Sunrise Festival is poised to become a signature event for Northeast India, shining a spotlight on Anjaw district’s natural beauty and strategic significance.
