In preparation for the 79th Independence Day, the Tawang District Administration convened a high-level meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday. The meeting, led by Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo, IAS, included key officials such as Superintendent of Police Dr. D.W. Thongon, DFO Piyush Gaikwad, IFS, representatives from the Indian Army, and other stakeholders.

Deputy Commissioner Angmo urged all departments to prioritize eco-friendly practices by minimizing the use of plastics and synthetic materials during the celebrations. She emphasized that these efforts are vital to advancing Tawang’s goal of becoming a plastic-free district and called for collective responsibility among residents and officials to support sustainable tourism.
The meeting also reviewed last year’s Independence Day arrangements and assigned tasks to various departments to ensure well-organized celebrations at the district headquarters.

Assistant Commissioner Sange Norbu reinforced the administration’s commitment to environmental protection and stressed strict enforcement of the ban on single-use plastic bags during the event.
In addition, final preparations were discussed for the Merag Lama Lodroe Gyatso Independence Day Football Tournament. Organizers reported 19 football clubs registered for the 21-day tournament beginning on 26 July 2025 to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas. The tournament will feature boys’ and girls’ teams and, for the first time, matches will be open to the public with ticketed entry.
The district administration invited the public to join the eco-conscious Independence Day celebrations and support efforts for a cleaner, greener Tawang.
