Itanagar, May 27: Arunachal Pradesh reported its first COVID-19 case of 2025 on Monday after a pregnant woman tested positive at Ramakrishna Mission Hospital in Itanagar.

Hospital authorities said the woman showed symptoms of the virus and was advised to undergo testing. After the result came back positive, she was admitted to the hospital and placed in isolation. “She is currently under observation,” a hospital source confirmed.

This marks the first confirmed case in the state during the latest wave of infections. Concerns have been raised regarding the hospital’s preparedness, as Ramakrishna Mission Hospital reportedly lacks a dedicated isolation ward.

Srikant Maharaj of the Ramakrishna Mission said a meeting has been scheduled to address the issue. “This is the first case reported at our hospital. We will hold a meeting tomorrow and share updates,” he said.

No COVID-19 cases have been reported so far at Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) or Heema Hospital. “We are closely monitoring the situation,” a senior TRIHMS doctor stated.

Across India, COVID-19 cases have seen a mild resurgence, with over 1,000 active cases as of May 26. Kerala, Maharashtra, and Delhi have reported the highest numbers. At least seven COVID-related deaths were recorded in the past week.

New variants, NB.1.8.1 and LF.7, have been detected in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat and are being closely tracked by the World Health Organization.

The health department has urged residents to stay alert, follow safety guidelines, and promptly report any symptoms.
