Pasighat, Jan 16: In a notable wildlife conservation effort, an Asiatic Pangolin and its pangopup, rescued from a farmyard in Bamin village, East Siang District, were safely released into the D. Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary on January 14. The animals were discovered by Taying Taduk and Mrs. Yale Taduk, who immediately contacted local authorities and handed them over to the Range Forest Officer of the Anchalghat Wildlife Range.

The rescue led to the successful release of the pangolin family into the sanctuary, facilitated by Orin Perme, Range Forest Officer, and supported by Divisional Forest Officer Kempy Ete. Both officials commended the Taduks for their prompt and compassionate action, urging other villagers to join efforts in wildlife conservation and help prevent poaching in the region.

The rescued pangopup, approximately 15 cm in length and weighing around 340 grams, will depend on its mother for protection. Asiatic pangolins are listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List and are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. Due to illegal poaching for their scales, pangolins face significant threats to their survival.

D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary remains a critical refuge for pangolins, with multiple successful rescues and releases in recent years, highlighting the sanctuary’s vital role in the protection and conservation of wildlife.
