The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide initiative to promote sustainable and scientific agriculture, was officially launched in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday. Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darang inaugurated the campaign at Khartooth Village and flagged off the Krishi Rath, a mobile awareness unit designed to disseminate vital agricultural information across the district.
The campaign, scheduled to run from May 29 to June 12, 2025, aims to empower farmers through knowledge-sharing, demonstrations of modern technology, and awareness about government schemes related to agriculture and allied sectors.
A similar Krishi Rath was also flagged off at Jemeithang headquarters by In-charge EAC Deewan Mara. The launch events saw participation from officials of Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary, Fisheries departments, the National Research Centre on Yak (Dirang), Farmer Producer Companies, Panchayat leaders, Gaon Burahs, and local farmers.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner Darang emphasized the importance of organic farming for soil health and sustainable crop production. He also encouraged the adoption of integrated farming practices, including pisciculture, to improve income and livelihood opportunities for farmers.
Experts from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Tawang, NRC on Yak, and allied departments conducted interactive sessions to educate farmers on scientific techniques and available government support. Farmers also engaged directly with specialists to discuss their challenges and seek tailored solutions.
KVK Tawang has been designated as the nodal agency to coordinate and ensure the effective implementation of the campaign in the district. The initiative is expected to significantly contribute to agricultural transformation in the region by fostering innovation and sustainable practices among the farming community.
