Itanagar, Sep 19: The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has extended support to students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Pakke Kessang district, who recently staged a protest over the prolonged absence of teachers, and urged the authorities to take prompt measures.

On September 14, nearly 90 students marched 65 km from Nyangno village to the district headquarters, Lemmi, demanding the posting of geography and political science teachers. The protest, led by senior schoolgirls, highlighted their concerns over studies being disrupted due to vacant posts.

In a statement issued on Thursday, APWWS appealed to the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) to initiate an independent fact-finding inquiry to assess the situation and recommend effective solutions.

The society cautioned against punitive measures such as suspending the headmistress or warden, noting that such actions could create fear and mistrust within the school. Instead, it urged the education department to adopt a compassionate and solution-oriented approach.

APWWS also called for urgent steps to fill vacant teaching posts, strengthen grievance redressal mechanisms, and ensure that students’ right to education is protected in the future.
