Rupa Bayor from Arunachal Pradesh has earned a place in the India Taekwondo Team by winning the Final National Team Trial held at Koramangala Stadium, Bengaluru. Her selection reflects her dedication, discipline, and consistent performance in the sport.
Rupa, who was recently named the Best Taekwondo Poomsae Player of the Year at the 2026 India Taekwondo Gala Awards at Hyatt Regency, Delhi, has been steadily climbing the global rankings. She made history as the first Indian Taekwondo athlete to achieve World Rank 6 and Asia Rank 1.
She also secured the Gold Medal in the Recognized Individual Poomsae U30 category at the 4th Senior National Taekwondo Poomsae Championships.
Her world ranking has improved significantly over the years: from 123rd in 2021 to 42nd in 2022, 12th in 2023, and now 9th globally, while maintaining the top position in Asia.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated Rupa, saying, “Wishing you the very best as you represent India at the Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Mongolia 2026. Make the nation proud!”
