Itanagar, Mar 19: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval of the Small Hydro Power (SHP) Development Scheme for 2026-31, highlighting its potential to promote clean energy and support rural economies in the Northeast.
In a post on X, Khandu noted that the scheme could help harness the state’s untapped river resources. He stated that it would provide enhanced financial support for hilly and border areas, facilitating decentralized energy generation in remote regions.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that small hydro projects are expected to create local employment, improve infrastructure, and promote sustainable development without causing large-scale displacement. He added that proper planning could strengthen rural economies and position Arunachal Pradesh as a significant player in hydropower development.
