Itanagar, April 2: The Central government has approved Arunachal Pradesh’s full requirement of 950 metric tonnes (MT) of urea for April, officials said on Thursday.

The decision came after state Agriculture Minister Gabriel D. Wangsu raised the issue at a meeting of state ministers chaired by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday.

Earlier, the state had been allocated 100 MT of urea through Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO). Officials stated that Arunachal Pradesh’s total requirement for April stands at 950 MT, including a carryover demand of 700 MT from March due to previous supply gaps.

During the meeting, Wangsu highlighted that Arunachal Pradesh, despite being among the lower fertiliser-consuming states in the country, has often received allocations below its assessed demand. He noted that demand has increased due to the expansion of oil palm and tea cultivation in the state.

Officials indicated that the approved allocation is expected to support agricultural activities during the ongoing cropping season. Distribution arrangements are currently being made to ensure timely delivery of fertilisers across the state.
