Guwahati, January 30: Popular singer and Indian Idol fame Rito Riba has announced the cancellation of his scheduled performance in Assam, alleging humiliation and lack of respect from the event organizers. The Arunachal Pradesh-born artist, who commands a massive following across the Northeast, took to social media to express his disappointment and extend an apology to his fans.

In a statement, Riba said he valued his audience but could not compromise on his self-respect. “We are truly sorry, but dignity and self-respect must always come first,” he remarked, explaining that the decision followed what he described as “unprofessional” and “disrespectful” interactions with the local organizing committee.

The announcement has triggered a wave of support for the singer on social platforms, with fans lauding his stand against the mistreatment of performers. The incident has also reignited debate within the regional music industry over the professional conduct of event managers and the hospitality extended to artists during high-profile shows.

While the organizers of the Assam event have yet to issue a formal response, Riba’s team confirmed that the singer will not be proceeding with the performance
