A mild earthquake of magnitude 3.6 jolted East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday morning, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) confirmed. The tremor occurred at 8:05 AM IST at a depth of 10 kilometres, with the epicenter located at latitude 27.77°N and longitude 93.12°E. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received.
This event follows recent low-intensity earthquakes in other parts of the country, including a 2.7 magnitude quake in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on August 23 at 10 km depth, and a 3.5 magnitude tremor in Kupwara district, Jammu & Kashmir, on August 21 at a shallow depth of 5 km.
Seismologists note that northeastern states and the Himalayan region frequently experience such minor earthquakes due to their location in high seismic zones.
