The Gauhati High Court has ordered Nagaland, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram to set up a high-level committee to address forest encroachments along their inter-state borders.
The court instructed the chief secretaries, forest department heads, and other stakeholders from each state to hold a joint meeting and prepare a comprehensive plan to remove encroachments in forest areas.
The states have been asked to submit the committee’s resolutions and report on actions taken by the next hearing on November 4.
