Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Saturday reiterated the state government’s focus on promoting heritage tourism by developing World War II sites and trekking routes leading to aircraft crash locations.

During a visit to the Hump World War II Museum in Pasighat, accompanied by former chief minister Mukut Mithi and other MLAs, Mein said several initiatives are being taken to preserve and showcase the state’s wartime history. He stated that the 80th anniversary of World War II will be observed during the International Pangsau Pass Winter Festival, which will include a Willy Jeep Rally from Pasighat to Pangsau Pass.

In a social media post, Mein said new museums and tourism-related projects are being developed to commemorate wartime sacrifices and to keep the history of the period accessible to future generations. He also appreciated Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng for establishing the Hump World War II Museum, noting that it preserves aircraft remnants and other artefacts and serves as a memorial for the families of soldiers.

The deputy chief minister highlighted the contribution of local tribal communities during World War II, stating that many assisted as porters and supported the construction of the Ledo Road. He added that a new World War II museum is under construction at Jairampur, while war-related sites in Changlang district, including trekking routes to aircraft crash locations, are being developed as tourist destinations.

Officials said the Pasighat museum documents Arunachal Pradesh’s strategic role during World War II and showcases artefacts, photographs, and accounts related to the Hump air route, the Ledo Road, and the involvement of local communities.
