Security forces in Manipur seized narcotics worth nearly ₹12.5 crore and arrested two men from Assam in a major anti-drug operation in Jiribam district, officials said.

The operation was carried out on Friday, December 6, by a joint team of Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Assam Rifles at Leingangpokpi. The team intercepted a vehicle and recovered a large consignment of contraband tablets from the occupants.

The arrested persons were identified as Rajib Hussain Mazumder of Ranighat and Sahar Alom Mazumder of Dubang, both in Assam’s Cachar district. Police recovered 50,000 WY/R-marked tablets weighing around 5.185 kilograms from their possession.

Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh praised the operation in a post on X, lauding the joint efforts of the security forces. He stated that the seizure was a significant step towards making Manipur drug-free and safeguarding the future of the state’s youth.

Investigations are ongoing to identify the wider network involved in the trafficking of the seized narcotics.
