Senior officials from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) visited Tawang today to review and strengthen the district’s disaster preparedness and response systems. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Tawang Namgyal Angmo, IAS, and attended by senior officials from NDMA, SDMA, district administration, and various line departments.

The visit focused on evaluating the functioning of District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs), reviewing State and District Disaster Management Plans (SDMP/DDMP), sharing disaster-related schemes and guidelines, and promoting best practices in disaster documentation.
The delegation included Joint Advisor NDMA P.K. Singh, Under Secretary Saroj Kujur, NDMA Consultants Dr. Vajeem Iqbal and Dr. Mili, SDMA Consultant Damchin Norbu, and Assistant Director SDMA. From the district administration, Superintendent of Police Tawang Dr. D.W. Thongon, AC-cum-IC ADC Tawang S.W. Mosobi, and other officers participated.

In her welcome address, ADC Sangey Wangmu Mosobi highlighted the challenges posed by Tawang’s weather, including heavy rains and mudslides in summer and snow and ice in winter. NDMA Consultant Dr. Vajeem Iqbal outlined the objectives of the visit and national disaster relief measures. DC Tawang briefed officials on ongoing initiatives, including last year’s glacial lake outburst surveys and plans for future assessments.
Joint Advisor P.K. Singh sought inputs from line departments regarding preparedness plans and existing gaps. The meeting concluded with remarks from DDMO Tawang Genden Tsomu. The delegation also inspected key sites across the district to assess ground realities.
The visit is expected to strengthen disaster management practices in Tawang, focusing on preparedness, inter-departmental coordination, and community awareness.
