Guwahati, Feb26: Following a viral incident of racial abuse against three women from Arunachal Pradesh in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on February 19, ace shuttler Jwala Gutta has strongly condemned the intimidation and slurs directed at them.

In a social media post, India’s most successful doubles specialist described the Northeast as a “powerhouse of culture, resilience, talent, and warmth,” while calling the abuse “disgraceful.”

“It’s heartbreaking how some ignorant people reduce them to stereotypes based on their facial features, questioning their identity when they are as Indian as anyone else,” Gutta wrote. “Respect their heritage. Acknowledge their contribution. Educate yourself. India’s diversity is its strength and the Northeast is an inseparable, invaluable part of it.”

The incident reportedly involved neighbors hurling racial slurs such as “momo” and “parlour wali,” while accusing the women of running a “massage parlour” during a dispute over air conditioner repair work.

The episode has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many voices joining in solidarity to demand greater awareness and respect for India’s Northeast communities.
