Itanagar, Nov 26: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a Rs 1,750 crore investment for the development of the Tato-1 Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in the Shi Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh. The project is set to enhance the state’s power infrastructure and promote regional development.
With an installed capacity of 186 MW (3 x 62 MW), the Tato-1 HEP is expected to generate 802 million units (MU) of energy annually. The project will address the rising energy demand in Arunachal Pradesh and support the national power grid’s stability.
The project will be jointly managed by the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The central government will allocate Rs 77.37 crore for the construction of vital infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and transmission lines, while Rs 120.43 crore will be provided as Central Financial Assistance for the state’s equity share.
In addition to energy benefits, the state will receive 12% of the electricity generated free of cost, along with 1% directed towards the Local Area Development Fund (LADF). The project will also focus on the development of local infrastructure, including roads, schools, hospitals, vocational training centers, markets, and playgrounds, with a dedicated allocation of Rs 15 crore.
The Tato-1 Hydro Electric Project is anticipated to generate employment opportunities, stimulate socio-economic growth, and significantly improve the living standards of the people in the Shi Yomi district.
