The first meeting of the regional committee for West Khasi Hills District headed by the Minister of Public Health Engineering (PHE) – Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, will be held on October 14.
Addressing the mediapersons, Tongkhar stated that “We will consider the viewpoints and recommendations of the committee members and concerned stakeholders, who have immense knowledge about the border issue. We anticipate them providing us with valuable input.”
The minister further claimed that all traditional heads from the 39 villages, who have expressed a desire to join Meghalaya, were also invited to the meeting.
Tongkhar stated that he is unable to assure that there won’t be any hostility against the two governments’ efforts to settle the long-standing border conflict.
“Although we would prefer that everyone approve the same, but this may not always be the case. Since one of the criteria is ethnicity, I hope that many people will be glad and therefore, I expect that the Assam government will respect those villages, who expressed desire to be with Meghalaya,” – he remarked.
