Assam Police Intercept Truck carrying ₹2 Crore Cannabis Consignment; Tripura Driver Held

Agartala, December 1, 2025: In yet another major drug bust within just ten days, police at the Churaibari watch post intercepted a truck carrying a huge consignment of cannabis on Monday morning.

According to Officer-in-Charge Anand Medhi, the NL-06 E-7658 numbered 12-wheeler truck arrived empty from Tripura when police ordered a search. During inspection, officers found 67 packets containing a total of 376 kilograms of dried cannabis, cleverly concealed along the sides of the truck’s body.

The driver, identified as Rakesh Chakraborty of Kamalnagar, Jirania in Tripura, was detained on the spot. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the consignment was being transported from Tripura to Shillong, Meghalaya, for illegal distribution.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer Arniban Sharma stated that the seized narcotics carry an estimated market value of around ₹2 crore. He confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant laws and that further investigation is underway.

Local residents and community leaders have expressed satisfaction at the Assam Police’s continued anti-narcotics operations, which they say are helping curb trafficking in the region.
