Agartala, January 02, 2026: In a major success against narcotics smuggling, Assam Police seized contraband cough syrup worth approximately ₹24 lakh and arrested two individuals in Churaibari.
According to police sources, traffickers attempted to conceal the illegal substance inside fruit cartons to evade detection. However, the plan failed as vigilant officers at the Churaibari check post intercepted the vehicle.
Around 3 p.m. on Friday, a mini truck (registration number AS28AC-2040) traveling from Guwahati via Haflong and Silchar towards Agartala arrived at the checkpoint carrying vegetables and assorted fruits. Upon inspection, police discovered 2,423 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup hidden inside the cartons.
In-charge Niranjan Das confirmed the seizure, estimating the black-market value of the consignment at nearly ₹24 lakh.
The driver, Nur Jamal, and co-driver, Raju Ahmed—both residents of Barpeta district in Assam—were taken into custody. Police stated that a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the accused will be produced before the Sriboomi court.
